Swifts are on the way! 😀 And you could see one in the next week as a mass arrival is on the cards in the current weather conditions🌥️ Discover species to look out for in this week’s BirdTrack migration blog 👉 bit.ly/44jRqll

The sedge has an edge - a striking broad creamy stripe above its eye, as I like to remember it.
Lots of sedge warblers, arriving from sub-Saharan Africa, are filling the air with their noisy, mimicking, rambling warble today here in Hampshire.

There are two types of people in the world, drains and radiators. The people that dumped this are drains in more ways than one! makes me mad, not only a danger to the environment, nature&livestock, but ends up being a farmer's responsibility to clear/dispose of it!

Sound Up! 🔊 The red listed grasshopper warblers have arrived in Hampshire! This otherwise nondescript warbler, just arrived from Africa,is most easily identified by its grasshopper-like call. Also seen sedge, cettis, willow, reed warblers, no cuckoo. BTO Hampshire Ornithological Society Breeding Bird Surveys

I see you up there Nuthatch, singing your song! A charismatic & vocal woodland species with a range of whistles&calls. Nuthatches have been abundant on all sections of my recent Breeding Bird Surveys. They nest in holes, reinforcing the entrance with dried mud and lay up to eight eggs BTO

(1/4) This week, we have two species for the price of one to compare the trends of! Both Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat are beginning to arrive in the UK for the summer. In the below image, Whitethroat is on the left and Lesser Whitethroat is on the right!

Another stunning morning doing dawn Breeding Bird Surveys for a farm/estate - part of ongoing annual monitoring. Highlight so far the red listed tree pipits. This male doing an impressive display, flying high then to parachute down whilst all the time singing its beautiful song BTO

Dogs and National Nature Reserves really don’t mix. A conservation grazing sheep that survived 2 previous dog attacks was finally killed by a third. Why do our best reserves still cater for dog owners ahead of nature and everyone else?

The bluebells are at their peak in Hampshire, my most favourite time of the year!
This woodland is actively managed rotational coppice with standards. Therefore always has a jaw-dropping show of ancient woodland indicators. Nice to see the coupes I cut years back looking good

Found a glow-worm (beetle!) larvae!
The larvae are voracious
predators, killing their prey(slugs/snails)by delivering a series of toxic bites, paralysing & eventually dissolving their soft body. It might ride on the snail's back in wait for the effects to happen. Grassland, Hants

Pasqueflower Pulsatilla vulgaris, nearly in bloom. A rare plant in the UK (vulnerable) which is restricted to just a few chalk&limestone grasslands. Steeped in legend, it flowers at Easter, so it is known as the 'Anemone of Passiontide' BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Plantlife wildflowerhour

There is no let up: I gave a talk on farmland birds to a local gardening group last night. With the help of a farmer, I put up 27 nest boxes for Tree Sparrows this evening - that's 50 put up on this farm in the past month.

Picked a good day to go birding at the coast 🤦🏻
That noise reminds me of my childhood, my grandfathers house was on the Hamble and I listened to that pinging for years! Not sure that boat should be there though Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve
