The #Swifts are back in Stockbridge, Hampshire!
Hampshire Swifts Hampshire Ornithological Society BTO
The sedge has an edge - a striking broad creamy stripe above its eye, as I like to remember it.
Lots of sedge warblers, arriving from sub-Saharan Africa, are filling the air with their noisy, mimicking, rambling warble today here in Hampshire.

There are two types of people in the world, drains and radiators. The people that dumped this are drains in more ways than one! #FlyTipping makes me mad, not only a danger to the environment, nature&livestock, but ends up being a farmer's responsibility to clear/dispose of it!
Sound Up! 🔊 The red listed grasshopper warblers have arrived in Hampshire! This otherwise nondescript warbler, just arrived from Africa,is most easily identified by its grasshopper-like call. Also seen sedge, cettis, willow, reed warblers, no cuckoo. BTO Hampshire Ornithological Society Breeding Bird Surveys
I see you up there Nuthatch, singing your song! A charismatic & vocal woodland species with a range of whistles&calls. Nuthatches have been abundant on all sections of my recent Breeding Bird Surveys. They nest in holes, reinforcing the entrance with dried mud and lay up to eight eggs BTO
...and so the dawn Breeding Bird Surveys begin on farmland! Such a great morning for it 🌄 lots on the record sheet already - yellowhmers, blackcap, linnet,raven,goldfinch,whitethroat....
Best time of the day to be out! #FarmingWithNature
Lots of butterflies have been spotted on the wing across the Farms in the #FarmerClusters - red admiral, comma, small tortoiseshell, brimstone, holly blue, small white, peacock and orange-tips.
What have you seen? Butterfly Conservation 🦋 Dan Hoare
Pasqueflower Pulsatilla vulgaris, nearly in bloom. A rare plant in the UK (vulnerable) which is restricted to just a few chalk&limestone grasslands. Steeped in legend, it flowers at Easter, so it is known as the 'Anemone of Passiontide' BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Plantlife wildflowerhour
Misty day at Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve, lots to see & hear. But watching this sandwich tern hunting was a highlight. Spring firsts-whitethroat&reed warbler.
