Folks in Chicagoland are asking how to support our students. The best way is to just show up and be in community. Listen to the speakers. DO NOT BRING FOOD OR SUPPLIES please right now, as they're overwhelmed w yesterday's generosity and can't process it all yet.
CHICAGO: we’re gonna need yall if we want to hold it down and keep police off the encampment for another day!!! if admin wants to prolong negotiations, we’ll keep prolonging the encampment‼️‼️
Good morning from NU’s Liberation Zone🇵🇸🇵🇸 we made it thru the night without any police confrontation which is a testament to who truly keeps us safe: our community, not cops. We are ready to keep making our demands heard today for Palestine. Show up.
This is the job. It has been disappointing, but not surprising, to see how few tenured profs show up and speak up compared to untenured and contingent faculty, grad student workers, librarians and staff. But many GOT tenure BECAUSE unis reward silence in moments like these.
So far, Columbia, Indiana University and Northwestern have all had admin bypass faculty committees to unilaterally change codes in order to suspend and ban protesters.
No, I am not tenured. How will I account for yesterday and today and tomorrow? Will our board forgive me when I go up and let me stick around? Doesn’t matter. This is the job: to speak about important matters. And protecting our students is the only thing that matters right now.
According to colleagues, IU faculty arrested at the Palestine solidarity encampment are slapped w 1yr bans from campus. I have seen many examples of police brutality agst campus protests over the yrs- inc student bans - but I have never heard of faculty targeted this way before
the actual encampment at Columbia—i'm here after teaching my final class of the semester—is downright tranquil, impossibly sweet. there is a 'nut zone' for the safety of kids with allergies.
This energy. THIS is what we need from everyone. Support our students. They are on the right side of history and anyone with a brain, heart, and soul knows it!
