Yesterday, I held a call with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt and a call with Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar to discuss reaching a deal to secure the release of hostages together with an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

.Secretary Antony Blinken just arrived in Cairo to meet with the Egyptian President and Foreign Minister Shoukry. He will also join leaders from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the Palestinian Authority to continue work towards lasting peace and security in the region.

Today in Cairo, I met with President @AlSisiOfficial and Foreign Minister Shoukry to discuss our ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire deal that includes the release of hostages, and would allow a sustained increase in aid for Gaza.

Amb. Zahran discussed the ongoing coordination between Egypt and the US, Egypt’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, and reiterated Egypt's position calling for an immediate ceasefire and it’s commitment to the two-state solution.
