This is excellent for anyone interested in place-based working with communities as a change from fragmented silo services that serve the organisation or system rather the person, the family, the community 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

With mental health services at breaking point, this is the latest instalment of a desperate culture war designed to target blame rather than deal with the issues.

Certainly not in my personal experience. I think I saw the same set of rejigged PowerPoint slides, with no action or tangible difference made to people, about 50 times 🤷‍♀️

My job over the last 40 years has been writing strategies. Depressingly none of them have worked. Not a single one 😐 What has worked are the compelling stories about a place, a partnership & the people. We can waste so much time on pointless documents that people can’t remember.

Loved this interview with North East Lincolnshire Council's Rob Walsh. Definitely one for you if you are interested in the art of developing a 'place' in terms of local economy and collaboration within public services. Inspiring stuff. Rob Walsh ✨ Donna Hall ✨

Strategies are completely pointless. They take up all our time & energy preparing them, presenting them to boards & management but they just don’t make a difference. It’s STORIES that really make a difference. Develop a compelling story of place, of community & of relationships.

Brutal honesty & transparency is the start of any genuine change. Public services (including the NHS) in their current form are broken. Pretending otherwise to “bolster morale” will do the opposite. We are teetering on the brink & a total reset, not a positivity drive, is needed.

What if the 'national' in National Health Service is the problem?

Great piece by Rosie Beacon for the The New Statesman on why radical devolution is needed 👇

“Total Place” pilots showed us the way back in 2009; our learning in Greater Manchester & other pilots discovered place-based budgets on their own aren’t enough; we need system, asset-based “total person” preventative support. Total Place - Total Person. Radical place leadership!

1/2 Strongly recommend this article by my colleague Liz Roe on the Total Place policy and the lessons which can be drawn from it. Links closely to the work we are currently doing at Mutual Ventures w/ ✨ Donna Hall ✨ on Radical Place Leadership.

Great thread Andrew Laird and precisely the point about once and for all embedding the nhs in place that I made to The MJ yesterday👍👍👍👍👍 and I’ve similar feedback from current & former colleagues working in the nhs “local” system about far too much central control.
