During CO Appreciation Week, 9 Collins CF employees received Letters of Commendation for their life-saving efforts of a fellow employee facing a medical emergency. These staff members stepped up to ensure their coworker was safe & received proper care. Great work staff!

Acting Commissioner Martuscello planted a tree at the Albany Training Academy in support of Governor Kathy Hochul's goal of #25MillionTreesNY . To expand the Department’s efforts, a tree will be planted at each of our correctional facilities throughout New York State.

DOCCS honors the memory of the 43 colleagues who have died in the line of duty since 1861. Today, on May 15, 1981, Green Haven Correction Officer Donna A. Payant was strangled by an incarcerated individual less than one month after becoming a correction officer.

Congratulations to Recruit Class 2023-11 who graduated on May 10, 2024. Associate Commissioner James Donahue gave the keynote address. The 35 Correction Officer graduates will now head to on-the-job-training at their assigned facility.

On May 8, Acting Commissioner Martuscello attended the Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison spring benefit, “The Next Chapter,” in support of continued access to higher education in New York State prisons and to honor the achievements of those who benefited from college programming while incarcerated.

Greene CF held their annual Employee Service Awards dinner to acknowledge more than 40 employees who have served faithfully to both the Dept & New York State for 20, 25, 35 & 40 years. The Dept thanks its employees for their continued dedication & congratulates those honored.

Woodbourne CF takes pride in providing helpful services to those in need. So, in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the facility provided staff with local resources & info to recognize the hardships victims face & encourage those to help end sexual violence.

A key goal in NYS’s justice system is to reduce recidivism. Teachers in our facilities not only provide the means to complete & further our incarcerated population’s education but also gives them the confidence to be successful when returning to the community. Thank you teachers!

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Queens Area Office brought awareness to sexual assault by providing information on how to combat victim blaming and educate those about sexual violence.
