The World Health Organisation WHO estimates that 1 in 3 women across the world has been subjected to some form of violence in their lifetime. Violence against women and girls has increased significantly over time and has reached alarming levels #DefendHerRightsKE

Last year, Human Rights Watch released “I Had Nowhere to Go”: Violence Against Women and Girls During the Covid-19 Pandemic in #Kenya , a report that highlighted the increased incidence of violence against women and girls during the pandemic #DefendHerRightsKE

Consequently, a report released by NCAJ Kenya in April 2020 pledged that “the courts will consider giving directions on early hearing dates in such cases.” #DefendHerRightsKE

The hotline is run by tele-counsellors who assist survivors regardless of gender.

Data from APHRC, World Health Organization (WHO) and other organisations place unsafe abortion among the leading causes of maternal mortality in #Kenya at an average of 7 deaths daily.

Approximately 35 calls per day are received on the hotline which is run by tele-counsellors to assist survivors of both genders.
