Pierre Poilievre is coming for your Charter rights -- yes, yours. In the process, he might even be trying to undermine the Charter itself.

Pay attention, Canada. nationalobserver.com/2024/05/07/opi…

In a nutshell this is why a demagogue's message requires serious/sober reflection. There is a reason why constitutional traditions need protection. Equal rights are not toys that can be taken away by some squalid pol plundering our constitution. This is Canada. Equal means equal.

Pierre Poilievre owns most of this, by the way.

His constant attacks on carbon pricing have created an environment where large companies need insurance on its existence -- and won't proceed with major decarbonization investments without it.

Conservative digital media goons can post memes and empty the sewers of their imagination. None of it answers the key Canadian question. Why won't Pierre Poilievre distance himself from extremist garbage?

Pierre Poilievre still can’t denounce the conspiracy theorists or the white nationalists who support him. So let me help him with that.

“The Premier is setting up a totalitarian government for herself. Danielle Smith wants to control everything. Pensions, police, health care, schools, local councils. Any dollar spent anywhere in the province, and any decision made by anyone. Everything.”

David Parker has been very critical of voting tabulators and has repeatedly said that this was one of his request of Smith. She is now delivering by banning tabulators at the municipal level.

Significant implications for Alberta local democracies:

If passed, province can:
- remove any councillor for 'public interest'
- amend / repeal any municipal bylaws

Also:
- municipal political parties allowed
- union/corporate donations allowed

Pierre Poilievre meets with far-right extremist group at Nova Scotia-New Brunswick border.

I’m pretty sure you’d have the first $250K taxed at the same rate as before, then anything after that at the higher rate. And if you have more than $250,000 in capital gains (which doesn’t include the principal paid down by renters) on an investment then…congratulations?

Rebecca Schulz Wildfires throughout Alberta on Earth Day. We must hope we don’t see another Fort McMurray, Edson or High level evacuation this summer. UCP continue to ignore climate change.
Wildfires & Droughts a concern this year in Alberta. YOU & UCP can’t blame Ottawa.

Rebecca Schulz Seems we have an “environment minister” who:
-Banned low emissions power generation
-Found loopholes to permit coal miners into the foothills
-will take no action on decades old abandoned rusting oil infrastructure.
…and wants to take a victory lap on Earth Day. I can’t think…

Fun fact: under Brian Mulroney's PCs in the 1980s the capital gains inclusion rate was hiked from 50% to 75% -- and the overall combined corporate rate was in the low-40s versus the current rate of 26.5%.

And yet, businesses were formed. They took risks. Imagine that.

This is the Conservative climate plan, folks: export more fossil fuels.

It's a sad joke, of course, since Canada isn't going to get credit for emissions reductions that happen in other countries. But it's all they have.
