Terrific thread on a fascinating study with potential high clinical impact for those who do hospital-based care. Thank you, Robert Dickson!

Is depletion of anaerobes the mechanism of cefepime's superiority over pip-tazo?

(Cefepime has anaerobic activity, albeit not as broad)

Each congenital syphilis case is a failure of our fractured healthcare system, which is particularly bad in the US south -- and exacerbated by factors such as substance use disorder, unstable housing, and poor prenatal care.

Should be 'never' events. doi.org/10.1093/cid/ci…

Congrats to Nimble for her record-breaking victory -- 'Aw shucks, it was no big deal' she seems to say afterwards.

Haven't been so entertained by something on TV in some time, so THANK YOU!

My mother still doesn’t celebrate Mother’s Day.

In fact, on reading this piece, she emailed me, “Who needs a brunch when you get this?” 😆

Thank you, Dr. Aird!

Right back at you -- can't believe anyone can remember (or understand) the coagulation cascade (among other hematology mysteries).

Substantial decline (70-75% lower) in RPV levels in this pregnant woman treated with injectable cabotegravir and rilpivirine. No virologic failure or perinatal transmission occurred. 'Bimonthly CAB/RPV may not be suitable for pregnant women...' Agree!

Sensational overview by Steven Tong on the need for more randomized trials for Staph aureus bacteremia -- limited studies to date, despite how common and serious this problem is. Underscores the importance of the multinational SNAP Trial.

Just finished recording the next IDSA podcast with the remarkable Courtney Harris, MD, FACP, who shared her top tips on the job search process for ID fellows. She's thought a lot about this topic -- check out her paper!
Full recording coming soon.

Each year, during ECCMID in Europe -- now called -- I'm reminded of the first time I saw the power of this platform for education, as I didn't attend but learned SO MUCH from colleagues.

Hope we can keep it that way! x.com/PaulSaxMD/stat…

The guest on this latest podcast is none other than the wonderful Darcy Wooten she/her. The first time someone emailed me about her they wrote, “She is the kind of individual who brightens the life of everyone she works with and teaches.” So true! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/let…

Hey insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers and pharmacies -- requiring a prior approval and inflating the charge for a cheap generic drug makes zero sense!

It's bad for patients and is unethical.

Stop it already!

Hey -- do you think the data support these recommendations? Why or why not?

A common theory behind increased RSV cases numbers among children after the end of Covid lockdowns was “immunity debt”. In this fascinating analysis now in Clinical Infectious Diseases, another explanation emerges--vastly increased testing, esp of older kids. sabeti_lab doi.org/10.1093/cid/ci…
