I wanted to give an update on Zay who needed a hand up not a hand out;
1. While waiting for next court date, he wanted out of the 585
2. Bought him a plane ticket and sent him away
3. Secured a job w/ some resources
4. Gave him some starting over money until he gets 1st check

Few people ask why post this conversation? I post because I want to open up the door for help.. open up another side of an athlete going down a path and how sports can help him..coaches serve as a bridge for these kid.. I’m not a coach..so I got him a real coach w/ experience👇🏾

Not enough characters to express that this is REAL work in the community. We quickly give up on our youth when they need us the most. This is where we need to be investing our time and finances. 👏👏👏

Real talk 101

I can’t answer these legitimate questions.. I can’t worry about what others are doing… I can only control my actions. I’m connected to these kids.., they are willing to take a chance and trust us.. I honestly think it’s ALL HANDS ON DECK at this point..

Spent 3 hours shooting hoops, talking to this young man… it’s gonna take work w/ this young man.. but we GOTTA try to get him out of one of the most cruelest gangs in the 585.🥺

As we try to tackle the crime wave going on the city… we were asked by this mom of a 15yo who has been arrested 4 times in under 7 weeks… when we started he wanted nothing to do w/ us.. however 🏀 is his sport.. played in his school so we took him to where he is comfortable.

PRIMETIME585 MENTORING-
Mom reached out to us desperate for help.
1. Son joined a gang
2. Son quit school
3. Son starts stealing cars- been arrested 4 times in 45 days
4. He has too much time on his hands
5. He played 🏀 so we took him out to talk where is comfortable

Far too many anonymous accounts - saying things on social media - they would never say in person - or have their real names attached.
This would be a great Jennifer Lewke or Berkeley Brean investigation.
