Brian Kateman Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Michael Grunwald Sorry all of those people you tagged are completely clueless on anything pertaining to soil science.
REGENETARIANISM Brian Kateman Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Hey Tamar Haspel should it make us feel better that everyone who wants to call us useless morons first says 'sorry' or 'with all due respect'?
Michael Grunwald Brian Kateman Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek As reporters, one would assume you'd understand the importance of relevant sources w/o the need for having egos coddled. Plenty of relevant sources to choose from including Dave&Anne Kris Nichols Joel Williams Matt Powers etc.
REGENETARIANISM Michael Grunwald Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols Joel Williams Matt Powers The snide aside, thanks for connecting me to these soil experts. Hello there! Do you know anyone working on synthetic soil? The more futuristic, the better. Thank you!
Brian Kateman REGENETARIANISM Michael Grunwald Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols Matt Powers Why does your definition have to be foreign and futuristic? Potting soils/potting composts exactly fit the bill. Rockwool and other hydroponic mediums are also synthetic. Not that I am a fan, but hydroponic systems are soil less, even more foreign than a synthetic soil.
Joel Williams REGENETARIANISM Michael Grunwald Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols Matt Powers Good point. Is potting soils/potting composts scalable/affordable? If not, how can we make it so? I’m curious about futuristic technology because my sense is that what exists now won’t replace degraded/eroded soils, but let me know if I’m mistaken about that. Also, up for a chat?
Brian Kateman Joel Williams REGENETARIANISM Tamar Haspel Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols Plants evolved with soil, soil biology, plant endophytes, the soil food web, and predictable cycles and stressors - if you remove those, you create a foreign environment and the plants do not thrive and cannot provide the best nutrition. Synthetic soil is a dead end.
Matt Powers Brian Kateman Joel Williams REGENETARIANISM Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols When hydroponic veg are compared to conventional veg, the evidence I've seen suggests they're similar -- sometimes hydroponics are more nutritious, as here, with strawberries. We have a long history of growing nutritious veg in artificial environments.

Tamar Haspel Matt Powers Brian Kateman REGENETARIANISM Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols You're comparing the minerals which typically don't differ, correct. The differences are found among the secondary metabolites that are uniquely induced by biotic interactions (beneficials or pathogens) yielding specific biochemicals produced in the plant.
Joel Williams Tamar Haspel Matt Powers Brian Kateman Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols But that study was for strawberries where 'soils' are typically tilled & mounded (in general strawberry production is pretty awful for soil). More recent research comparing conventional vs regen systems showed large nutritional benefits to regen systems peerj.com/articles/12848/
Joel Williams Tamar Haspel Matt Powers Brian Kateman Richard Waite Matthew Hayek Dave&Anne Kris Nichols David & Anne go over their research in a lot more detail in their latest book 'What Your Food Ate'. They had to do a lot of their own research since so little research exists comparing diff growing systems. amazon.com/What-Your-Food…
