The ease, scale, and speed at which the liberal guarantees supposedly legitimizing the political order in the west crumble under the weight of the official commitment to the genocide in Gaza is really something to behold.

Another King's College London alum killed by Israel. Adnan Al Bursh abducted, tortured. Maisara Alrayes killed in an airstrike, trapped under rubble for 30 hours. Yet, King's College London still silent, not even simple ceasefire call. This isn't neutrality, this silence is complicity.

Funny how the moment Palestine is brought into the fore all institutions are suddenly changing their charters claiming now to be apolitical, and that it’s not in their remit to get involved in ‘geopolitical conflicts’…

The murder of Dr Adnan Al-Bursh in Israeli prisons was a red-line in the same way the Al-Ahli Hospital massacre was. Once safely crossed the whole project can be rolled out. The lives of over 100 health workers in prisons are in danger.

We're shocked to hear that another King's College London alumnus-Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, head of orthopaedics at Al Shifa Hospital-was killed in an Israeli prison after +4 months of detention & torture. How long will KCL refuse to condemn Israel's genocide in Gaza & to stop its complicity?

Members of the SoA voted for fossil fuel divestment but against a motion for a public statement recognising the ongoing genocide in Gaza & acknowledging its impact on Palestinian writers. As if one were possible without the other.

The resolution brought forward by Society of Authors members calling for a statement to be made in support of a ceasefire in Gaza, didn't pass.

That means the murder of 40,000+ Palestinians isn't enough to compel a majority vote among British writers. What a time.

As the genocide reaches its 208th day, with 40,000 Palestinians having been killed, the British Government still refuses to place an embargo on arms to Israel. So British workers are enforcing an embargo through direct action in response to a call from Palestinian trade unions!
