I’ve been teaching a dual master’s and 300 level cybersecurity course (from an IR and policy perspective) at Waikato. Today we had a specialist intel analyst talk to the class. Very engaged students, many of whom are doing Waikato’s Master’s of Cybersecurity. Hugely refreshing.

Five years ago, I sounded the alarm about how
NZ was being targeted by a concerted foreign interference campaign by China. It is has taken 2 lengthy Parliamentary inquiries, and 4 years of internal discussion to get us to the point where NZ government would name the problem.

For the billionth time independent foreign does not mean neutral 🤦. We have been and continue to be a US aligned nation. Independent foreign policy just means we won't blindly sign onto things (for example Iraq War), it doesn't mean we won't cooperate with international partners
