Our #fishofthemonth for Oct is Irish Sea, Celtic Sea, and southwest of Ireland #herring . This depleted stock shows the biomass to be among the lowest levels in the time series (beginning pre-1960) far below all stock size reference points.

At Killary Shellfish to discuss @ATU_ie student's project on mussel farms biodiversity & habitat role + possible🤞future work with Tim Regan The Roslin Institute. Thanks to cattle mart @ Maam Cross I had to drive up the scenic Inagh Valley. The fjord looking not too shabby either.

While looking for wild mussel habitats to use as controls I found this monster native oyster (Ostrea edulis) shell by the shore near Leenane, Killary Fjord. My daughter's hand for comparison. My baselines keep shifting and we need to go back to them.
