The Election Commission of India has admitted in the Supreme Court that a laptop is used to program a software in the EVMs.

The biggest question is why has the Election Commission hidden this fact from the people of India till date?

The elections start tomorrow! If any order had to be passed it was now, otherwise it’s academic at least insofar as 2024 elections are concerned.

The illustration is from s 86 of Kenya’s Elections Act, but the principles of “simple, accurate, *verifiable*, secure, *accountable* and *transparent* are universal.

Rather than making oral remarks about trusting the system, SC should apply these principles to the system (2/3).

I don’t have a strong view on the EVM/VVPAT case before the SC, but the Court’s approach to such an important issue is unfortunate.

There’s a global convergence around the legal standards in cases of this kind (see screenshot below for a representative example). (1/3)
