In our work on effective population size, we often receive a comment that 'some species persist at low size Ne <500 for many generations & are fine'. But this seems anecdotal. Can anyone highlight species/ isolated populations for 10s of generations at v small size? G-BIKE_COSTAction
📢There's time until March 2024 to submit papers to the Evolutionary Applications Special Issue 'Effective Population Size in Conservation and Biodiversity Monitoring', dedicated to Mike Bruford.
We need your studies on plants and fungi too!🌿🍄
Read the great thread👇for more details!
So great to be back at Pierroton INRAE umr biogeco this week to visit Myriam Heuertz and talk more about effective population size 🧬 in plants 🌿and fungi🍄

Costa Rica, once home to rampant logging, has now almost doubled the size of its rainforest. They turned it all around within a generation. It can be done.
Protect people and the planet.

Current starting point for postdoc salaries University of Oxford just over £36k - £2.7K under threshold. According to The Royal Society 62% of postdocs are non-UK nationals (5/6 in my lab). Two things: (i) postdocs are underpaid; (ii) UK science is screwed
