Congrats to the winner John Vaillant for his important & beloved book! I was angered to learn that Kagiso Molope was escorted out by security for speaking the truth about the genocide in Gaza. This is an award for political writing and she embodied frank and fearless speech.

South-African Canadian author Kagiso Lesego Molope was just asked to leave the Politics and the Pen event for speaking on stage about the death toll in Gaza. She was interrupted by yelling, then after, was escorted out.

This event hands out the award for best political writing.

Day 6 of UofT Occupy for Palestine

I spoke with Erin Mackey again, 4th year student University of Toronto. I asked her about what the mood is among students & what engagement they’ve had from the administration.

“At this point we’re no longer interested in conversations, we’re interested in commitments.”

“Ancient desires” is a blatantly Islamophobic trope. It plays into the idea that Islam is an archaic tradition that has long harbored hatred towards Jews. It’s false and despicable, and wrongly pins the root cause of this conflict on religion.
