Whenever I hear a Canadian politician, whether they be municipal, provincial, or federal, downplay our economic problems, I really wonder what universe they’re living in. Things are bad out there right now.

Toronto councillor on junket drove luxury rental car from Turin to Milan and arrived at airport too late to check in, so charged city extra $5,300 for hotel and new tickets. Ironically, he actually could've made it on time using the train. Fare: only $47

I reiterate to Mayor Mark Sutcliffe + City of Ottawa cncllrs that celebrating Israel's 76th year with a flag raising is grossly inappropriate. You havent done this since '07. Why now? Israel is about to decimate Rafah, where 1.2 million P@lestinians have been forced by Isra3l to…

CTV Ottawa You could do a story every single day of the week about a local resident who has tried to make it easier for this city, to make this city a better place to live, to make this city sustainable, and every single time has been told to get bent. Start with Toon_Dreessen.

Interesting here that things began to spiral once the big investors moved in. I still think Canada should ban REITs. It would immediately increase the housing supply.

Development charges (DCs) seem like a good way to fund infrastructure and services, but they harm Ottawa by making housing less affordable, worsen the housing shortage, and exploit new residents like a pyramid scheme, rather than sharing costs among all community members. (1/3)

“There’s going to have to be a real cultural shift. The backbone has to be the limited profit sector. Not just municipal housing, but alternative forms of ownership, like cooperatives. We absolutely have to build with the right kind of money.” theguardian.com/news/article/2…

Antoine Belaieff Alex Mather The entire Canadian public procurement machine at every level is based on the philosophy of paying more for the worst quality and not even realizing it.

Another Hurdman Station failure is that they can’t seem to keep vandalism of the two toilets under control. Both out 2 weeks ago also. GottaGoCampaign will not be pleased. Nor those who must use toilets for various personal/medical reasons. Not just a “convenience”.

I wonder how much money and Ottawa Police time could be saved if we simply designed streets so that people couldn't speed or otherwise break traffic rules? How many resources could we then deploy elsewhere?

it's pretty painful to watch what is being proposed at villiers in TO, with what i would consider best practice in places like utrecht's merwede...

density w/ small scale urbanism: small blocks w/ several buildings. largely car-free. abundant and varied tenures of housing.

So what the City of Ottawa is planning to do is miss the provincial target by nearly 70,000 homes, and spread DC expenses over 82K homes rather than 151K. Causing per-home DCs to be nearly twice what they otherwise would be!

Ignore this sign. It was written in error, by a hapless bureaucrat.

The pricetag on the Greenbank Realignment in Barrhaven is now up to $112 Million!

The previous DC background study had it listed at $90 Million. This is for just 4km of road.

The scale of the ROW alone makes this plan look more like the rendering for a TOD project around some suburban rail station than the last big neighbourhood to be developed in downtown Toronto. Opinion piece from our Alex Bozikovic

Capping property tax increases at 2.5% is misleading when we recommend raising development charges over 10x that.

Renters and young people paying the price once again.
