NEW: China’s unprecedented clean energy investment boom was the main driver of the country's economic growth in 2023. Without clean energy sectors, the country’s GDP would have grown by only 3% instead of 5.2%, missing the government’s target by a wide margin.

The world added a historic 510 gigawatts of renewable power capacity in 2023, up 50% from a year before

Under current policies & market trends, global renewable capacity is set to be 2.5 times higher by 2030, not far off the COP28 goal of tripling

Global temperatures hit record highs in the last year, and extreme weather events continue to affect people around the world.

It’s time to move from promises to action. Concrete . Now.

Ok, here is what we have on the table as approaches the end. Some quite nice wordings but no clear phase out of fossil fuels. And the worst: everything under ”could”.

The direction is in place but no shared path or ambition.

If we get an agreement on fossil fuels at it'll be in large part thanks to António Guterres' tireless advocacy.

One of the rare world leaders who is telling the truth about the severity of the climate crisis and where the blame lies: with the fossil fuel industry.

This week at I don’t want to see diversions and political tactics that hold climate ambition hostage.

Eight billion people are now on the frontlines.

I urge all ministers and negotiators to think outside the box.

Yes, compromises will be essential. But not on ambition.

Our focus is on phasing out and phasing down fossil fuels. We just do not yet know how it can be expressed.

Carbon pricing is mainly in the hands of countries and regions. That’s why the international organisations are highly needed to create linkages and to harmonise carbon markets.
