All happened just too quickly for Beauport today but thankfully we have ended the season with him in better shape than this time a year ago. Off on his holidays soon. Owes us nothing and we are still on a high after the Midlands National! Already plotting next season.

I got some that had bits of old rotting fence and plastic in it.
The original range of John Innes composts were originally scientifically developed in the 1930s at the John Innes Horticultural Research Institute.

Cannot understand why Mr Incredible is second favourite for the Coral Scottish National.

Bought some John Innis No3 from local Garden Centre. What a load of rubbish. Fibrous woody stuff with added grit just thrown in. Should have know better than buy L*vingtons compost. Took delivery of some John Innis No2 by Westlands and so much better consistency. Both peat free.

Spent the day scraping the brick path that leads into the Old Farmyard. Probably my least favourite job of the year but has to be done ( pic from last October). Also mowed over the pond and about to start watering the pots.

Heard the cuckoo last night when taking the dogs out. Always a good moment. 2 days earlier than normal.

Really would like Mr Incredible to win the big one tomorrow so we can boast that Beauport has beaten two Grand National winners in his career!

Off to a memorial service in Chester. Trains very delayed (yesterday’s rain? ). Hope I get to the service on time as timings tight. OH doing a eulogy but thankfully he is up there already.

Path bed now all opened up and looking rather lovely. People have been visiting today. Dropping in and delivering pots, buying plants and others asking if they could visit as they were passing.

The meadow is awash with cowslips. Set off beautifully by the newly laid hedge expertly laid by Matt Oliver this winter.
