As part of Cliff Edge Coalition NI, we are very clear that removal of the two-child limit is a good place to start if we are to address rising poverty levels in Northern Ireland.

This Cliff Edge Coalition short video explains why we need to .

Our short video explains why we need to .

One in ten children in Northern Ireland live in households affected by the two-child limit.

We can do something about it.

Best of luck to our friends at the Cliff Edge Coalition and to the Opposition as they bring this motion today. We've opposed the 2 Child Cap since it was first floated a decade ago - we knew what the evidence now shows, that it directly causes child poverty.

Research by Women's Consortium also confirms this: Poverty harms women and children.

Removing the two child limit can support better outcomes for women, children and families.

We’re at Stormont advocating for the removal of the sibling tax along with Cliff Edge Coalition NI. We know it’s pushing children into poverty & we know the majority of people here don’t back it!

It is the government's job to eradicate child poverty.
There has been a suggestion that NI can't afford to remove the 2-child policy. For the sake of our children, families & public services we can not afford to keep it.
It has and will plunge hundreds of families into poverty.

A big reason for is that the electorate don't support it. A poll commissioned by Save the Children in NI found that 64% of people believe it is 'unfair' or 'very unfair' and support abolishing it

The Cliff Edge Coalition - with over 105 member organisations - is clear that this is a good place to start to address rising poverty levels in Northern Ireland.

Good to see the cruel 2-child policy in focus at Stormont as part of the SDLP's Opposition Day. It's a major driver of child poverty & scrapping it should be a priority for the Executive. Children living in poverty can’t wait around for change Cliff Edge Coalition NI

We’ll be at Stormont this morning for the Opposition debate on poverty.

Really encouraged to see the removal of the two-child limit on the agenda.

One in four children here now live in poverty and those numbers will only continue to rise if action isn’t taken immediately.

DfE are consulting on the onshore petroleum licensing policy for NI and are proposing a moratorium and then legislation to ban it. We agree! Our only quibble is the lack of urgency.
