Some of the great birds seen in Estonia with Uku Paal this week: hoopoe in off the Baltic; crested tit and willow tit in the forest. Lots more to relate. Will pop another post on later in the week and blog when I'm home. My first guided birding holiday and I'm hooked already.

Walk around the headland and to the north breach screen at WWT Steart Marshes. Reed, sedge and Cetti warblers, common whitethroat. Spoonbill, greenshank, spotted redshank; yellow wags bathing in fresh water pool. Oliver Smart 's Woodchat shrike nice to finish on. Thanks Sam, warden.

Some images from Langford Heathfield reserve (Somerset Wildlife Trust) today. A
'bank of violets ', the alarmingly-named lousewort, common carder bumblebee on lousewort, and a male orange tip on English bluebell. The butterfly has a crumpled hindwing, maybe newly emerged. BC Somerset & Bristol

Reviewed progress after 7 moth traps this year and it's been interesting: 40 species of which 10 new here. Night of 11/4 was catch-up time with 4 striking new moths: water carpet, oak beauty, frosted green and a glistening Dyseriocrania subpurpurella. Somerset Moth Group BC Somerset & Bristol

Wetland plants from the Somerset Levels yesterday: white and red deadnettle, cuckoo flower and, I think, sticky chickweed?

Dark sword-grass found on re-checking egg trays before storing today. Pleasantly surprised after 7 moths of 3 (Orthosia) species to MV light last night. Other sightings further S and W last night so this may have arrived on the sou'wester from continental Europe. Somerset Moth Group

Ashy mining bees were out in force on the wildflower lawn today with a peacock butterfly on the dandelions . Yellow rattle coming through in numbers now and our best show of snakeshead fritillary for years.
