While size definitely helps on the football field, it is grossly overrated. Some of the best players in the game today (and in history) are undersized players who were determined to outwork everyone else.

If your non HS sport coach, (AAU, Travel Baseball, 7 on 7), is telling you NOT to play multiple sports in high school they are not looking out for your best interest. They are trying to benefit off our your dollars.

If you go slow, steady, and smart for an extended period of time, youโ€™re likely to end up with something incredible.

You can tell how committed a player is by:

1) The attitude they bring
2) The questions they ask
3) Their openness to feedback
4) What time they arrive to practice
5) The extra work they're willing to do

If we aren't struggling, we aren't learning. We don't need to over-hype the importance of failing, but a little bit of discomfort is a good thing. Great skills are borne out of the struggle.

At my last school I coached football but worked in the admissions office during the day, touring prospective students around campus. One day I walked in a pottery class and heard the teacher say this:

'There is no win and no fail. There is only make.'

What are you making today?

How much failure hurts:

Today: a lot
Next week: less
Next month: a lot less
Next year: not much at all

Like with most things, failure hurts the most in the moment but slowly passes with time. Keep trying.

Procrastination is the arrogant assumption that God somehow owes you another opportunity to do what you had time to do.

Here's how Apolo Anton Ohno measures winning:

'Weโ€™ve been conditioned, I believe, to think about... unless you bring home the gold or the results as a metric, itโ€™s not considered a real actual factual win. I just think that thatโ€™s not entirely accurate in any shape, way or form.'
