Completely agree with this.

IMO this is a better way forward for Ethereum to reduce complexity and optimize for ZK performance.

Take 2 ๐ŸŽฌ

Which designs are considered L2s? How do trust assumptions differ? Why pick one vs. another?

Tomorrow we'll cover these questions and more with:

The agglayer is not an L2.

An L2 is an execution environment that allows an L1 to offload transaction execution. The agglayer cannot execute transactions, therefore it is not an L2.

The problem is that the word 'layer' is overloaded - we use it in the sense of modularโ€ฆ

'within one or two years we'll have the capability of proving the Ethereum L1 in realtime' (talking about zkchains vs no zkchains)

'now entering a mode where every serious chain is a zkChain'

Surprised at the level of misunderstanding of L3s.

- Moving funds between L2s doesn't require withdrawing to L1.
- The fixed costs of posting state updates to L1 can be amortized across many L2s.
- Appchains need not be L3s.

Why be an L3 when you can be an L2?

I will be in Boston for the next few days for Harvard Blockchain Conference (hosted by Harvard Blockchain)!

Looking forward to discussing the future of rollups with Brendan Farmer and Neil Bhuta of Galaxy.

Don't hesitate to say hi if you see me in person!

Tomorrow, we set the stage for one of the most impactful components of the Polygon ecosystem.

Excited. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

Just when you think weโ€™ve reached the diminishing returns zone, Plonky becomes even more performant. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Plonky 2 and 3 are the golden standard of recursive proving and, alongside Polygon zkEVM and AggLayer, Polygonโ€™s biggest contribution to the space so far.

Keep building. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

Huge congrats to Justin Thaler and the rest of the team responsible for Jolt!

I want to make 2 things clear:

1. Brendan's response was to point out some specifics with the benchmarks. It was not to be hostile. That era of Polygon Labs is over. It is super exciting that so manyโ€ฆ

Congratulations to the a16z team on developing Jolt. Exploring the design and tradeoff space is important given how early we are in building zkVMs. This is a huge achievement.
