Brilliant to see a response to 'Sargent and Fashion' so attuned to performance, theatricality- art and artifice- in the artist's work

A knockout in the flesh. Currently on show Tate. The chair reappears in several other portraits. John Singer Sargent, Lady Agnew of Lochnaw, Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.

Great to see 'Sargent and Fashion' selected as one of Frank Tallis' cultural highlights- particularly seeing it listed alongside the brilliant 'The New Life' by Tom Crewe

I rarely wow but WOW - Sargent and Fashion Tate is a monumental achievement. The power of fashion and art history mixing, the scholarship of curating this and the emotion inside is beautiful. Other visitors I saw were enamored (as was I). Many magic moments and a must see 👏

There are lots of moments like this in the exhibition. And including the clothes (sparingly) lets us see how Sargent transformed them, making them part of his sitters, like bird’s plumage. Plus, it’s the world of Henry James brought to life. Many levels to enjoy. Tate

When we recorded this on Monday, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry and I had no idea that Pitchfork would be gone by the time the episode dropped. Really feeling for everyone who lost their jobs. We need critics. Let critics live!
