What’s the difference between this argument and “it’s not right that millionaires get the state pension”… or “it’s not right that millionaires get access to the NHS for free”? If only there was some mechanism where we could get money back from richer people….

Today is one of those days when it hits me that I no longer fully understand English: I see “refugee camp bombed” or “bags of the remains of children” and I come to realize that the clarity I used to feel when reading has given way to bleary-eyed incomprehension.

Explosions so big that some people were reportedly buried under the sand. This isn't normal. We can't allow this to become normal.

I'm teaming up with Melanie Janine Brown MBE and others to make the UK the first Western country to introduce a law ending Afro hair discrimination. We’re calling for Afro hair to be recognised as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. theguardian.com/world/article/…

Steven Quinn was released from Brixton prison today as part of the government's early release scheme to free up space in UK jails. In total, he says he's spent 27 years of his life in the prison system and he has little hope that he will be able to stay out again this time.

We are alarmed by proposals which focus on community cohesion as a response to the worst racist violence in Britain in a generation It blames people of colour for failing to ‘integrate’ -framing the victims of the violence as its cause 🧵 theguardian.com/world/2024/sep…

'Community cohesion' approaches offer palatable 'solutions' but they downplay racism and austerity and often blame the very people who have been victimised by this summer's brutal violence. runnymedetrust.org/news/community…

I fear this part of the Darzi report already risks getting lost - but it is absolutely key. If we want to avoid another lost decade for the NHS, we have to invest in the wider public sector and all the other things that make up the wider determinants of health.

I was at court today where Marieha Hussain's trial re the 'coconuts' placard began. Key points: - Court heard that placard image was posted by a "secretive" US political blog Harry’s Place - It appears Met Police picked up on it from there before arresting Marieha (1/)

Black and brown people really are being policed and charged over terms we’ve used within our communities for decades — it feels so callous. Beaten up by racists last month. Then prosecuted for calling out those within the community that uphold the structures for those racists.

It's beyond disrespect to say Professor Gus John lacks the credibility to speak on the issue of racialised language. The fact that the prosecution said this shows how farcical this court case really is. Why has the CPS decided that prosecuting Marieha is in the public interest?

Sunny Singh (@profsunnysingh) 's Twitter Profile Photo

‘Disrespectful’ does not begin to cover the utterly unacceptable prosecutiion stance and language. Prof. John has produced pioneering, rigorous work on race and racism for over 50 years!!

Leading Black professor Kehinde Andrews was asked to assist police in the case of a British Asian woman charged with a hate crime - now acquitted! - over a satirical 'coconuts' placard months before being thrust into his own criminal investigation. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Marieha Hussain should never had been in court. Now questions need to be asked as to why the CPS decided this prosecution was in the public interest. The same CPS that decided prosecuting the person who pushed Christopher Kapessa, 13, to his death wasn't in the public interest.

“That Marieha Hussain is being prosecuted whilst the likes of Suella Braverman, Nigel Farage, Tommy Robinson & Frank Hester are seemingly free to make inflammatory & divisive statements is incomprehensible (...)” - Rajiv Menon, defence barrister independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…
