The Daily Moth 1,157. It looks like Spurge Hawk-moth is cementing its grasp on UK soil. Double figures were caught at an Essex site last week & multiples in Suffolk too. It’s as pink as an Elephant underneath & as boldly marked above as a Bedstraw or Striped. #MuchAdoAboutMothing

A barely fleged, beautiful and rather aberrant Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina). Such odd yellow plumage is usually caused by a melanin deficiency in the bird. #birdringing #birdbanding

1/2 - 2 of the 4 juvenile marshies at RSPB Otmoor are stunning partial leusistic birds! One mostly white and one half white with a black bar along it's wings. They have a lighter coloured gold cap too, amazing birds to see and I hope their feathers are strong enough Oxford Ornithological Society

2024 UK - Get in there! The Ghost #Orchid (Epipogium aphyllum) is one of our rarest species, and one that doesn’t need an introduction. After 30 years of searching I’m beyond delighted to have chanced upon one European Orchids & Wildflowers Mariposa Nature Tours BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland #wildflowerhour

An incredible day out in The Minch yesterday where we saw 7 individual Humpback Whales, some of which were lunge feeding on krill. What a spectacle 🐋🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A big thank you to Jason Brown Contracting for installing our new interpretation boards at Gibraltar Point today and for some lovely fencing/gate works this week opposite Sykes Farm. Cracking jobs all round! Thanks very much lads, especially in some awful weather conditions!

Sometimes you just have one of those days... I was lucky to be leading Monday's YorkshireCoastNature wildlife adventure when all hell broke loose about five nautical miles off the North Yorks coast. Here's those seven incredible hours distilled into a few minutes: northernrustic.blogspot.com/2024/09/humpba…
