Incorporated professionals got hit hard in yesterday's budget.

The biggest impact for many will be the increase in the capital gains inclusion rate for every dollar of capital gains in their corporation.

Let's look at the math to see how bad it is.

These are just high-level thoughts.

Don't rush out and take action yet.

There will surely be more advanced commentary coming out from the tax community in the coming weeks.

But if I was a physician or other professional, I don't think I'd be too happy with the new changes.

Smith sees bias because universities don’t have many social conservative academics. The thing is, academia exposes you to others outside your in-group. It builds empathy for others, which is the antithesis of social conservatism.

BC to require all hospitals to provide a designated space for illegal drug use.

Having a substance use disorder should never preclude access to life-saving medical care.

What awful policy. I understand you really want to help people get into the market, but this money will flow straight through to sellers in the form of increased prices. Yet another generational wealth transfer in the wrong direction.

New standard of care just dropped for Alberta Ministry of Mental Health & Addiction interviews.

Phenomenal job by @cbcrob CBC Calgary not giving an inch to misleading narratives.

MUST WATCH. Starts at 4:30.

Don’t act surprised

“Feds claw back $1M due to private patient charges; Sask. Ministry of Health 'deeply disappointed'
Deductions were taken due to patient charges for diagnostic imaging services at private clinics: federal gov't”

“We can’t really talk about universal health care without housing as a human right.” 👏👏👏 Substance use, mental health issues, diabetes, etc.; they all get worse when patients remain unhoused. Time for theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

Raghu Venugopal MD Thank you for engaging Dr. Venugopal. The model calls for an expansion and enrichment of “medical expertise” and in no way seeks to diminishes who we are what we do. Where things “live” figuratively is arguably less important than the totality of what one brings to patient care.

The reviews of the Premiers’ committee appearances are in:
“parade of nonsense”
“completely dishonest about the cost”
“ignoring rebates”
“fantasy” alternatives and the kicker, “bankrupt positions.”

Canada's ER doctors are holding a national forum on the crisis in Emergency medicine - from long waits, to rural hospital ER closures, to short staffing.
They've invited government leaders from across Canada to meet in Toronto April 30 and May 1 to design and enact solutions.

So, who benefits and who loses from 'Axe the Tax' in Alberta, per PBO. The richest 20% of Albertans benefit, to the tune of $8871 per year, while the poorest 20% would lose $600 per year with the change in policies. In Ontario, the richest gain $5622 while the poorest lose $408.

I don’t envy my pharmacist colleagues in this. We all need to understand that for-profit incentives will always push healthcare professionals in uncomfortable directions without clear boundaries and enforcement. This is entirely foreseeable and inevitable.
