Most people won't like this. But I think that 'talking to customers' can be a crutch for not actually doing any work when you join a new company as a marketing leader.

Often times they are bringing you in because something is not working, needs to be fixed, or the company hasn't

I've been hiding out for a bit.

I'm out there digitally, writing here, the podcast, newsletter, and community.

But I haven't been to an event in a few years.

After moving on as a CMO and before focusing on Exit Five, I didn't really have a reason to travel. I can just hide

I did something uncomfortable and it’s immediately paying off.

There was an opportunity to go on a run with Dave Gerhardt and some other marketing leaders…but there were two BIG problems.

The run was in Brooklyn at 6AM. To get there, I would need to wake up at 4AM.

Me 8 months ago: I'm never leaving my house again, never traveling for work, I'm a solopreneur for life.

Me today: team of three (and growing), willingly traveling for work, having fun doing it.

WTF is happening

I didn't realize it until the notifications, but today marks two years of Exit Five (Exit Five | B2B Marketing).

For the first 1.5 years I treated Exit Five like my side project - I wasn't sure about going all in. It was a nice little thing, but I was committed to just doing it solo and

Following a really great week of analyzing websites for the community over at Exit Five, my new podcast episode with Dave Gerhardt is out.

This episode is 🔥 🔥

I had so much fun geeking out with Dave about the role emotions play for B2B buyers.

I can't wait to hear what you

You didn't go to school for B2B marketing.

OK, maybe one or two of you did (it always happens in the comments).

But most of you (like me) did not go to school for B2B marketing.

You're left to learn it on the fly - at your company - while also hitting the growth goals and

You can only pick one rented platform to build an audience on for B2B:

1. X
2. LinkedIn
3. TikTok
4. Instagram
5. YouTube

Where are you focusing?

I created Exit Five to help you build a successful career in B2B marketing.

First it was my 'private' podcast on Patreon talking about my lessons and learnings from PR intern to CMO.

Then it morphed into a Facebook Group and quickly became one of the top resources for marketers

You attract the right audience by writing about topics that audience cares about.

It's not because of the ad targeting or personalization.

It's the content.

That's how you get in front of the right people.

Over the last year we've generated $1M+ in sponsorship revenue.

100% of it has come inbound.

I don't expect it to last for ever, but it sure does make things either.

No outbound. No growth hacking. Just a brand + an audience.

If you're going to be at Goldenhour next week in Brooklyn and want to snag a few miles before the event early Wednesday morning let me know.

A run early in the morning guarantees a great day, so we'll already have a great day before even stepping into the venue.

Just a quick

I wrote a book called Founder Brand 2+ years ago.

It wasn't a best seller. It didn't make me a boat load of money.

But it has sold 10,000+ copies and a few times a month I get messages like this.

Pretty neat.

PS. Get the audiobook because I did it in 2 days with a daycare
