So not only is this another classic of the Isaac Chotiner interview canon, but it also reminds me of how many people in the FP community went to the mat for Abrams when he was appointed last administration- how many people wanted to privilege personal connections over illegal acts.

Not quite Nixon '72 but a good night. Light blue are states I drove through with no serious stops. I've changed planes in MN but never left the airport and dont count that.

Personal opinion vs speaking for anyone, but agreed, it seems silly to have state Space Guard units vs federal reserve units of one form or another

Forgot to engage in self promotion last week -- I'm in the latest episode of our faculty video series, The Debrief. I brought along my faithful XO, among other props

At least a decade ago I wondered to myself about how a capable adversary might someday mess with US networked vehicular controls during a crisis but I didn't think through that a big US maker might have shared detailed code and data with the PRC govt

Look forward to 5-10 years from now when we have to have a massive policy fight over banning whatever software comes out of this bc he handed over the source code and access to US data and vehicle controls to the CCP.

The DA complained that the cop should have known she was a DA from running her plate.

Here in RI, elected officials and senior appointees get special plates for their personal vehicles so it's obvious to police at a glance they should be granted impunity

Typical DA: people must obey police commands

Also DA: drive more than a mile with lights & siren behind you, ignore cop's orders to not get out of vehicle and try to walk away, berate and challenge cop, refuse to accept citation

Finally had a chance to give this Handbook a good look and it is very good. Will assign a bunch of chapters from it when I offer my space security course again next winter.

In the Vietnam era it was usually 'helmeted construction workers' who'd go in to break up student protesters but if you can deputize fellow student goons all the more efficient I guess

There's a narrow niche of conserva-nerds who like the Cybertruck but I do wonder if Musk had gone for trad pickup styling but all pumped up and bro'd up and smelled like a steak and factory tungsten truck nuts

One reason why many people don’t like this kind of student protest is that it’s mostly working class people, often of color, who have to clean up the facilities and spaces they trash and graffiti.

It’s just another form of thoughtless privilege really (unless the kids will/

'I...possibly...hit him on the head very lightly.'

Ladies and gentlemen, your lesson of the day for why, if you are arrested or in a very arrest-adjacent situation, you should shut the fuck up.

Do not try to talk your way out of it. You cannot talk your way out of it.
