Solidarity to students and staff at Teesside uni whose place of work has been targeted by fascists UCU members must organise to defend our colleagues and communities

In an act of calculated labour control, Goldsmiths, University of London SMT has immediately locked everyone who signed their redundancy agreements out of their email accounts.

The jobs of those remaining have been hard-won by the sheer resolve of members’ fight. The strength of our action-holding the line with the marking & assessment boycott, showing up for strike action and the looming indefinite strike-brought management to the negotiating table.

Goldsmiths has agreed to: no compulsory redundancies for those remaining at risk; no compulsory redundancies in 2024-25 for all staff; holding the associate lecturer budget; working with the union to deliver on mutually agreed equality and diversity issues.

In return we will close our current dispute: calling off our marking boycott & proposed indefinite strike. We recognise the devastating losses endured through the Transformation Programme, the brutality of decisions members have had to face & the toll taken on all of us.

This is a really misleading article . These weren’t “voluntary departures” - staff were forced to take a deal as they would otherwise have been sacked. Strong resistance from Goldsmiths UCU saved some jobs but this is a warning for the rest of the sector timeshighereducation.com/news/goldsmith…
