Thinking about this again this morning. I wonder what field of study could provide insight into the relative contributions of e.g. corp interest (profit motive), human eagerness to connect, and whatever other cultural forces (scifi nerd culture?) to the current AI hype climate.

You can start by learning that 'AI' is first & foremost a marketing term used to mystify & oversell a vast array of data-centric techniques that generally require resources only a few companies have & are frequently protected from validation & scrutiny by trade secrecy
