Science can change misconceptions
Many healthcare workers report a (misunderstood, nihilistic) belief that ALD & AUD patients cannot change drinking - cannot be helped.
Here's Hanna Blaney, MD, MPH proving them wrong in Hepatology Communications

Elliot Tapper Carrie Lynn I did the same thing in NM, same results. One big hurdle - getting IR to let go of business. Solution: Show them how to give albumin during paracentesis when indicated, doesn't slow through put (IR nurses put IVs in efficiently) and they can bill for the albumin
They created a paracentesis clinic. It reduced ER visits and improved patient satisfaction
But how can we make happen locally?
Good thing someone who walks the walk wrote the editorial. Check out Carrie Lynn below

Elliot Tapper Can we better connect SLD to the other manifestations of metabolic dysfunction, medically and culturally?
It feels like a huge missed opportunity that the liver is barely included in the new cardiac-kidney-metabolic syndrome discussion.
