In DC, workers are guaranteed: ✅ A $17.50 minimum wage ✅ Paid family leave ✅ Paid sick and safe leave ✅ Wage transparency ✅ Strong protections against wage theft, noncompete clauses, and misclassification. OAG will continue to uphold these critical worker protections.

Today, Center for Labor and a Just Economy | HLS launched “Building Worker Power in Cities and States,” a policy toolkit for state and local action. The exciting policy ideas highlighted in the toolkit serve as a testament to the innovative spirit and energy in the labor movement. clje.law.harvard.edu/building-worke…

Ending non-compete clauses is about restoring freedom—freedom for workers to choose their jobs and for businesses to innovate. Banning them would unleash creativity and competition, benefiting everyone.#BanNonCompetes buff.ly/3yYxmKg

1. On this Labor Day, a reminder that FTC has issued a rule banning noncompetes. Noncompetes trap millions of workers, blocking them from taking better jobs or starting their own business. Over 25,000 Americans commented on our proposal. Here are some of their stories:

Frances Perkins, from Massachusetts, was the first female Cabinet member and a fierce fighter for big, structural change. What did she get done?  Social Security.  Minimum wage.  Union rights.  The weekend.   Let’s honor her by creating the Frances Perkins national monument.

The movement against noncompetes is as strong as ever. Courts are only one battleground (and even that one we won’t stop fighting on).

Alabama is farming out incarcerated people to work at hundreds of companies, including McDonald’s & Wendy’s. They're denied parole to provide cheap labor, the state takes 40%, and they often get just $2/hr after all the deductions. This is modern day slavery.

Conditions at W Street SE were so bad that they shocked even seasoned housing investigators. District of Columbia Department of Buildings wrote that one of the buildings was “unfit for human occupancy.” And at Minnesota Commons, conditions deteriorated so severely that three buildings were designated as blighted.

NEW: We put 7 Uber & Lyft drivers in one room and had them open their apps. We found Uber paying different drivers different amounts for the same ride. Lyft too. It’s proof corporations are using secret algorithms to pay workers less. And all of our jobs could be next.

One reason why Lina Khan is one of the 10 most innovative people of the last decade: "Over the last few years, the FTC has tried to show the public what it looks like for a government agency to be on their side." via Fast Company & issie lapowsky fastcompany.com/91175726/lina-…

These conditions are appalling, unsafe, and shocking to the conscience. No human being should have to endure this. We will hold Sam Razjooyan accountable for lining his pockets while threatening DC residents' safety and preying on families that rely on our housing programs.

There’s a big, and dangerous, difference between a candidate who says they’re for workers and a candidate — with receipts from the last four years — who actually is for workers.

Pharmacists, taxi drivers, doctors, housing organizers all giving powerful testimony at this town hall w/ Lina Khan & Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — so many folks fired up about taking on big corporations! A striking reminder that this work is grounded in the lived experiences of working families.
