So the public rate the universities after all, & ignore political attacks on their value to society. @NHS the most respected-fair enough. But just as I was getting a warm glow of validation it seems we’re rated behind the Royal Family: pride before a fall! theguardian.com/education/arti…

Grappling wt Scots law &🇬🇧Empire. Lots of cases in Court of Session, 1720-1820 re Scots in N. America, W & E Indies using English law. But noticeable the Court consistently upheld concept of Scot as a legal persona. Implications for nature of Britishness abroad under-appreciated.

Article on Scots law & 🇬🇧 Empire finally done. Months of research condensed into 1 table 😦 But given long emphasis on Kirk & education’s shaping of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in the Empire it’s time to see how 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿’s distinctive legal system affected things. Empire not as minimal as it might 1st appear!

Have a listen to the one and only WhyWouldYouTellMeThat?! with Neil Delamere and Dave Moore as we marvel yet again at Scotland’s almost unbelievable history of self-defeating antics and delusion in South America. Not Darien or Argentina 1978, it’s the one & only (thank god!) Gregor Macgregor.

Trump on 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 (meaning of course himself): ‘Do you know that some of the biggest, smartest, most brilliant leaders come from Scotland? Or at least, you know, their parents came from Scotland.’ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 exceptionalism is always a cringeworthy phenomena: maybe this will help kill it off 😃
