This morning’s daily operations briefing covered fires, tornadoes, blizzards, high wind, hail, and dangerous seas from just yesterday. As we think about all those impacted, I thank the National Weather Service dedicated staff for their life saving work from here NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center who monitors the sun.

In honor of International Women's Day, the World Meteorological Organization held a Gender Action Day on March 7th. National Weather Service Allie Allen and Ray Tanabe both served as organizers and facilitators of the session.  At the conclusion of the meeting, participants approved the WMO's Gender Action Plan.

4/25 to 5/10, 2024 was a busy stretch for National Weather Service. 3859 tornado, severe, and flood watches and warnings. 267 confirmed tornadoes. Followed by a G5 geomagnetic storm, warnings by NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center prevented major impacts. All while getting ready for hurricane season and onsite for wildfires.

All ingredients are in place for a very active hurricane season. It's a reason to be concerned, but not alarmed. Use this time to your advantage. Take the time now to put together a plan & preparedness kit so that you’re ready for the season ahead. noaa.gov/news-release/n…

We welcome WMO Executive Council members. The annual meeting is presided over by Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous and the first as WMO Secretary-General for Celeste Saulo. Climate change impacts and extreme weather greatly increase the need for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services.
