Not something you see often: Northgate Hall is a former Methodist Church opposite the Oxford Union, which became a community centre then most recently been a bar/restaurant (a Bill's, as it happens).

Planning permission sought to change it back into a place of worship!

I did a bit of googling on this and discovered the plaque doesn’t originally belong to this house: it was taken from a house a bit further west along the south bank which was demolished in the 70s to make way for wretched redevelopment

Five years. I’ve now owned the pub longer than the person I bought it from, and yet am still referred to as the “new owner” by some …

I’ve always been enamoured with this house on the south bank, adjacent to the Globe. I’ve never read the plaque on the front before now. Wren lived in it!

Extraordinarily and wonderfully crass

The Spoons in St Albans is one of the good ones. Perfect pint of Oakham Ales JHB for a ridiculous £2.29. I’m not complaining.

I’ll confess I *very* rarely drink cask beer outside of my own pub, but right now I’m having an Oakham Ales Citra in Snorbans and it’s very, very nice. Oakham is one of few breweries you see in supermarkets and chain pubs that I’ll nevertheless sell myself.
