It’s PMQs - taken by the deputies in Sunak’s actions. Small game of brinkmanship between Oliver Dowden and Angie Rayner - Labour’s deputy leader waits to walk in at exactly the same time as Dowden, probably to avoid a spectacle of Tory jeers…

To be clear: this was not a question about domestic politics - it was about our long-term defence commitment.

If, as polls suggest, the Tories lose next election then all their future plans go with them.

Keir Starmer has said Labour would aim to raise defence spending to 2.5% of GDP “as soon as resources allow” if it wins election

As that looks likely, you could argue much of Sunak’s speech is theoretical

Seems familiar? Boris Johnson pledged to increase defence spending to 2.5% by 2030 at the NATO summit in Madrid in June 2022.

When I go back to work it will be £1050 for my younger boy for four days. It was £750 for his elder brother, so a massive increase. This is *with* the current system of tax-free reduction.
