That DPMQs got a big billing but was pretty flat, very little light shed on housing or leaseholds and a few cursory insults exchanged but nothing much landed

Rayner asks Dowden on leaseholds and flats which Dowden has no answer to - the reply is on the delivery of affordable homes (which is a different thing) and says Labour would abolish right to buy

Rayner tries to get on the front foot, bringing up the row over her “living arrangements” but says that government has caved in on housing and on banning no fault evictions

It’s PMQs - taken by the deputies in Sunak’s actions. Small game of brinkmanship between Oliver Dowden and Angie Rayner - Labour’s deputy leader waits to walk in at exactly the same time as Dowden, probably to avoid a spectacle of Tory jeers…

To be clear: this was not a question about domestic politics - it was about our long-term defence commitment.

If, as polls suggest, the Tories lose next election then all their future plans go with them.

Anybody who cares about our security will want to know what comes next

Unclear whether an incoming Labour govt would honour Sunak’s commitment

Keir Starmer has said Labour would aim to raise defence spending to 2.5% of GDP “as soon as resources allow” if it wins election

As that looks likely, you could argue much of Sunak’s speech is theoretical

Seems familiar? Boris Johnson pledged to increase defence spending to 2.5% by 2030 at the NATO summit in Madrid in June 2022.

Extraordinary moment in the press conference just now where Sunak deliberately blocked NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg from answering Pippa Crerar's question about the next election.

Heading back to Westminster today after a year off with this little guy.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone. Special thanks to Rishi Sunak for not calling that May election for straight after my return.

My friend Oliver Smith‘s exquisite book is out today, a joyful, mind boggling tour of sites of pilgrimage in the UK, from druid caves to remote islands (via a pack raft) - I had an early read of it and it’s so worthy of all its glowing reviews ✨

What’s been so depressing about this whole affair has been seeing people I thought were quite serious political commentators - especially in the US - openly mocking a women who was quite obviously seriously unwell. You don’t have to love the Royals to find that distasteful.

I’m extremely sad to hear David English of Cardiff’s journalism school has died - he was a proper old school hack who emphasised getting off your backside and off the internet and onto the streets of local communities to find stories

Have got this far over three nights of baby feeding wake-ups and now just guessing by naming random football clubs to see if stations are named after them london.metro-memory.com

When I go back to work it will be £1050 for my younger boy for four days. It was £750 for his elder brother, so a massive increase. This is *with* the current system of tax-free reduction.
