The October Chi Bd of Ed meeting is starting. By the way, CPS still limits number of people in meeting room and the number of speakers (used to be 60, now 30), based on COVID protocols? It seems odd, given that schools are mask optional with no social distancing... doesn't it?

Public education shouldn't be a pipeline to sustain the world as it is. It should be a pipeline to create what it aught to be. If done with fidelity, that should ruffle the feathers of those with power.

For every 'pay teachers more' post (which we should!), there are like 50 'I'm leaving because my school is an abusive, toxic place' posts.

It's always a combo of the same two problems: A toxic, narcissistic school leadership and/or completely out of control student behavior.

In spring 2020, when other countries closed all schools, Sweden kept primary schools open, with mandatory in-person attendance and without protective measures such as testing or quarantines.

Sweden then told the world COVID didn't spread in schools. It wasn't true. 🧵

'School choice' is the background issue that's driving attacks on our public school systems. Let's take a moment to realize two things about privatization. Firstly, the modern school privatization movement emerged in response to desegregation.

Chicago is the most corrupt city in the nation. But it doesn't have to be that way.

We have big news: Today, the McCormick Foundation announced a $1.6 million grant for Block Club to build an investigative team to root out corruption, wrongdoing and inequity. buff.ly/3RiGiNI

You’d think the city with the second-highest Latinx population would, idk, fly a Mexican flag for Independence Day?

A 17 year old Kenwood Academy student was killed during open campus lunch. Police say he got into an altercation and then was being chased by a vehicle and was shot. This is ... the fifth student shot near school in three weeks since school started?

This is my son's school and also could be any school in any town on any day in America. I hate what we're doing to our kids, our educators, our parents, our communities. We've lost our way and I wonder how we'll find it again.
