One of our digitisers found this hand drawn tree of part of the Willow (Salicaceae) family explaining 'Sections of the genus Salix relative to the British species in Hookeri British Flora'

Last weekend’s trek to the Meilerhütte situated on the Austria and Germany border. 1) Androsace chamaejasme, 2) Gentiana bavarica, 3) Gymnadenia nigra.

I'm a happy Archivist today! A mystery box of correspondence from senders with surnames beginning with B, all relating to rhododendron identifications, turns out to have been missing from (and sheds new light on) our rhododendron correspondence files Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Yay!😀

The seeds of Ginkgo biloba ( #Ginkgoaceae ) have sarcotesta, which is a fleshy seed coat. Fatty acids in the sarcotesta oxidize during ripening & produce a foul odor. There is no evidence that these malodorous fructoids attracted dinosaur dispersers. But maybe they did! 🦕

A 'lifer' plant for me, Cistanche phelypaea from shores of coastal brackish marshes. Like other members of the family Orobanchaceae, it lacks chlorophyll and is an obligate parasite of other plants.
