In L.A. politics, when a disgraced establishment pol is being challenged by an exciting progressive outsider with grassroots support, the statute of limitations apparently expires for anti-Black racism and making disgusting remarks about a child.

So much love and respect for this fierce progressive champion. Elizabeth Alcantar is a servant leader, a movement builder, an awesome human being and, quite simply, a rock star.

LAPD and LASD continue to assault press freedoms, detaining and arresting reporters, and interfering with the work of journalists covering legitimate news events.

This problem is not new, and it’s not getting better. This keeps happening, and it’s dangerous.

Counter demonstrators violently raided the pro-Palestian camp at UCLA, causing injury and destruction while police stood by.

There are now calls to clear the camp to avoid more incidents.

That would only reward the violence, shutting down protest by decree instead of by a mob.

A great editorial from LAT, taking to task elected officials who are too lazy, stubborn or ideological to give up cliched “law and order” talking points. They make us less safe when they exploit a horrible crime to promote a false political narrative.

City Attorney Heidi Feldstein-Soto is fighting to arrest and fine people for being homeless. Meanwhile, she roadblocks and slow walks homeless housing. She is keeping people on the street, and trying to punish them for it.

Let's tell the Supreme Court housing that ends homelessness -- and that arrests, fines, and tickets make it worse.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case that could give cities unlimited power to arrest and ticket people for being homeless. There are rallies around the country, including in LA, to object to this failed, cruel approach.

Another ugly example of the lack of accountability and discipline for police violence. Today the California Department of Justice announced it will not file charges against an LAPD officer who shot and killed a 14 year-old girl.
