These #Ash leaves are a mix of 'susceptible' &'tolerant' to Ash Dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) and were collected separately by our team, placed on dry ice for LC-MS - chemical fingerprinting work with Fera to see if the team can differentiate between them.

July is a key month for Oak Processionary Moth (OPM) caterpillars, which present a hazard to people, animals and oak trees. If you identify the caterpillars or nests of this tree pest please don't approach. Report your sighting on TreeAlert: treealert.forestresearch.gov.uk #TreeHealth

🌳 Instead of infighting between natural regeneration and tree planting (when the ecologists answer is usually "both"), let's see why people think tree planting is bad, and show how Protect Earth solves those problems with the best quality tree planting. philsturgeon.com/the-best-possi…

🌳 It's not the main point of this article but I was bloody astounded to see The Guardian bring up tree planting vs natural regen and dedicate so much space to "both actually". Thank you Ellen McNally and Jacob Bukoski, from Oregon State University college of forestry!

Sorry. Massive rant. I'm reading a site on Regenerative Agriculture. What it is and isn't. Can and can't do. Who's involved (small farmers pushing for big change, big businesses pushing for small change) It's bugging the hell out of me. It's written to be read by academics...

Filmed in a wood that I visit regularly. It was nice to get to know what was going on here in much more depth.CCF seems like it could really be a much better way of growing timber. For both the long term sustainability of timber production and increased biodiversity nick phillips 🌳🌲

I thought I’d revisit the idea of scrub on farmland but this time from a ‘why it’s good for your #farm’ point of view rather than the ‘why nature loves it’ point which you see more often So #scrub… short bushy plants that birds love Often a dense thorny mix of shortish plants🔽

In France, some crows have been trained to pick up cigarette butts on the street. The crows pick up cigarette butts and put them into a machine, where they receive food as a reward.

A *fabulous* resource: the Coilltean Caillte/Forgotten Woodlands project has mapped 15,000 Scottish place-names indicating presence of trees/forest in the land. Gaelic as ecological memory-trove. I’ve just watched Wilding the film, and it is so gorgeous. Isabella Tree and Charlie Burrell are compelling storytellers for the journey of their land. Look forward to screening it in Frome 27th September along with Rewilding the Treescape-my interview with Alastair Driver

A short break from all the craziness going on around... This photo of birds on power lines from Dan Ilic looks like musical notation. So I tried to play it.
