Over fifty thousand people have seen this tweet Michael Gove Call me crazy but I’m still holding out for you. You were such a good Environment Secretary. You agreed to meet Zac Goldsmith and me. I don’t want to believe you don’t care and won’t do it…..
Lastly on this week’s SW tour a return to Heal Somerset. Just starting on its rewilding journey on heavy clay but already showing marked increase in bioabundance after switch from intensive dairy. Many thanks Jan Stannard and team for letting me gatecrash visit with Environmental Funders Network
Penultimate visit on my SW tour this week - a welcome return to the Cannwood rewilding site in NE Somerset. Home to the irrepressible Ben Goldsmith. Wonderful beavery wetlands, heaving with warblers and hirundines. What’s more it’s inspiring many others locally to restore nature.
Alastair Driver Forestry England From the original bumpf, what a visionary project, one of the forerunners to today's nature recovery schemes and projects
Drain blocking to re-wet peaty mires South West Water Park Lake in Cornwall. Hopefully only a matter of time before Beavers are doing this much more cheaply, effectively and naturally.
Rewilding charity Heal Rewilding is hosting a two-day Into the Light event on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 May, at their beautiful 460 acres Somerset site; talks and panels, finance for nature and the nature tech, stories of hope about wilder nature, go go. tickettailor.com/events/healrew…
A great start to Day 2 of the Rewilding Britain Rewilding Network Gathering - excellent talk from our friends at Northumberland Wildlife Trust. Thanks Sara King for our Climate Action North and NE #Rewilding Network invite. 🙏🌏 #networking #rewilding
Next stop on SW tour - the almost Mediterranean Park Lake - owned by South West Water. Thankyou to Biodiversity Officer Hannah Bailey for the tour and confirming genuine company interest in rewilding here. In fairness the site is already rewilding after mining several decades ago.
Second stop on my SW tour - Cornwall Wildlife Trust 〓〓 Helman Tor reserve . An absolute gem of a site. 300 ha habitat mosaic #rewilding after tin mining several decades ago with wild Beavers, Willow Tit, Marsh Fritillary and more. Superbly biodiverse and beautiful. cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk/what-we-do/our…
On a SW tour this week. First stop Neroche Forest in SE Somerset. An “unsung” site where Forestry England are taking a more natural process-led approach to woodland and forestry management. Gradually removing non-native conifers but still sensitively harvesting native hardwoods.
✨We're delighted to welcome Jenny Jones to River Action’s Advisory Board!✨
Jenny's roles and impact in UK politics needs little introduction, and her wealth of knowledge will be invaluable for our mission to #rescuebritainsrivers

Thoroughly enjoyed leading a nature walk around Broughton Sanctuary Broughton Hall Estate for the local community, funded by The White Rose Forest. Highlights included Green Hairstreak, Curlews bubbling away merrily and plenty of toad spawn in the wild swimming pond. Next one Thurs 23rd May
A beautiful day for leading a free wildlife walk for the local community around Broughton Sanctuary at Broughton Hall Estate. Traversing rewilding areas, intensive grazing, deciduous & mixed woodland and tumbling becks. Next one due Thurs 23rd May a.m. Supported by The White Rose Forest.
