To think that in the summer Sunak said all those culture war things he didn’t really believe, just to get the votes of nutters and bigots. And now it turns out he didn’t even need to.

A crucial part of the modern Tory lexicon is ‘now is not the right time’, which actually means ‘it will never be the right time’. So it’s heartening to see Johnson say that now is not the right time for him to return as PM.

I'm sure now he's dropped out he will be getting back to Uxbridge to do a surgery this week with his constituents and will be in the debates in parliament tomorrow to do his job.
