Want to know how Uber assigns a driver a passenger, and vice versa?? Think it’s because you are the closest? Nope. Not about efficiency.

This is what makes algorithmic wage discrimination so so so insidious, immoral, and terrifyingly dystopian.

“Unfortunately, the budget does not address the needs of young people, seniors and families who cannot afford to buy a car and rely on public transit every day.”

It’s a pretty big deal when this KEY MESSAGE is in Scientific American. It suggests a bigger tipping point. “We Need to Make Cities Less Car-Dependent: Reducing the need for car travel is better for health, the environment and public safety.” Via @SciAm

Did you know that the City of Toronto is aiming for 75% of trips under 5 km to be taken on foot, transit or bike by 2030?

It’s an ambitious target, and if we maintain the status quo, it will not be met.

Vote for a certification of a hamilton gig work delivery local is closed. workers have been bombarded by messages from Uber & Skip the Dishes to vote no on a union. Organizers have no access to do the same since they don't have contact info for all workers. Does that sound fair?

.Uber Canada took out billboards & digital ads to say this.

Now delivery workers have filed to join Gig Workers United & @CUPW.

Let's see if it's true!

No legal delays/obstructions/interference & full respect for deliverers' right to associate & bargain, right?

What a joke. This is one of the reasons why I haven't driven in 2 weeks. My FT job gives me the option to say 'no' to these companies.

Councillor Nunziata notes she’ll be withdrawing a motion she had planned about reductions to UP Express service. She says she spoke to Doug Ford and “within an hour” it was confirmed that service wouldn’t be changing.

“Can you ask him to open the Eglinton LRT?” Matlow jokes.

'Riders deserve affordable services. Uber & Lyft can provide that. They're choosing not to.

They're also able to provide a $15 minimum wage to drivers. It's a choice that they don't want to do that.'

Don't let billion dollar corporations pit our communities against one another.

Concerned about Canada's productivity growth? A good place to start would be to fix a growing business model that pays people nothing, to do nothing. My take for Toronto Star Star Business: thestar.com/business/opini…

The “engaged time” payment structure in the gig economy is unfair, inefficient, and — I believe — contrary to the obligations of gig platforms under existing employment standards. It needs to stop. Great piece by ⁦Jim Stanford⁩!
