I think this is a great read and translates well across settings.

I recommend reading this alongside Rachel Glennerster post on related issues --- academic and policy research have diff priorities, def worth thinking abt which motivates/suits you more!

Special issue on mental health and socioeconomic status at JDE, edited by the wonderful Nishith Prakash, Gautam Rao, and Frank Schilbach.

I'd tag them all but Twitter seems broken.

V happy about this. We wrote the paper coz even the descriptives felt important. Plus the (massive) policy response to COVID ed loss deserved a good look.

Sometimes you just have to write the papers you want, even when you (correctly) foresee identification won't be perfect!

I read the draft of Karthik Muralidharan's book but I'm *really* envious of everyone with a print copy (no international edition yet 😢).

Apparently tho this retailer ships from India

(P.S. I'm thrilled this book is done, maybe we'll *finally* finish papers!)

Calling social scientists and health economists:

I’m trying to pull together as many official surveys as possible from as many countries as possible that track mental health (ideally including children, but adults-only will do).

I’m good for UK and US, anyone got any others? 🙏

'I feel about them how a Roman reformer would have felt about the vandals' 😂

I'm definitely going to steal this line. Dunno when and for what, but the metaphor applies so well to so many situations!

Apropos of nothing, here's my episode from a few months ago with the remarkable Yamini Aiyar: seenunseen.in/episodes/2023/…

India is lucky to have outstanding public intellectuals like her.

A few days aga, Yamini Aiyar wrote in The Economist about the shrinking space for independent civil society in India.

Today the CPR India board accepted her resignation as CEO.

Case in point.
