I stayed up past midnight (v late for me) to watch the Harris-Walz rally in Philadelphia. They’re great. I might actually be able to be positive about 🇺🇸 if they win. 🤞

The pub regular who all the staff LOVE but nobody has remembered their name and it’s too awkward to ask so you’re all on each other’s back trying to induce some event where it’s discovered. That guy

Yesterday I paid £15.20 for two pints of Sam Smith’s lager. Admittedly it was the premium one, and in one of their nicer pubs, but still. Mad how their London pubs are if anything a bit toppy on price these days.

At Ypres Castle Inn today we’ve had not one but TWO incidences of someone coming to the bar and ordering “a beer”. And tbh I am here for it. Daft as it is, I always find that level of naivety quite disarming.

I ask this question because winemakers / wine bar people / wine merchants I interact with always seem to assume we’d be serving 125ml as standard, and yet in my experience it’s not what the British public expect, for better or for worse.

It’s Italian week at Lidl UK. Each time it comes around I buy enough of the guanciale joints to get me through to next time. Got a disapproving look from an obvious fellow Waitrose habitué as I tipped a dozen in my basket, even though I left two for her.

After a challenging period in terms of injury, I’m looking forward to an autumn of hiking challenges: 1. St Cuthbert’s Way 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 in September 2. Via Lauretana Toscana 🇮🇹 in October 3. Kalabria (sic) ‘Coast to Coast’ 🇮🇹 in November

Having never had a noticeable allergic reaction in my life, my eye swelled up like a tennis ball when this cat stayed in my flat above the pub last month. Bremner’s v cute and good for the ‘gram, but I need to keep my distance from him
