Long coleoptile wheat varieties will increase farmers’ profits - GRDC works to ensure risk-free emergence! Greg Rebetzke youtube.com/watch?v=OvaUsK…
Kenton Porker GRDC CSIRO Greg Rebetzke Therese Mcbeath Consistent with what we are seeing in paddocks across the mallee Kenton Porker 👌🏼 Some great breeding allowing crop establishment in tough conditions
Differences in coleoptile elongation rates with deep sowing (10cm) contributing to improved emergence of new Rht18 dwarfing gene Mace18 (cf Rht2 Mace) and Sceptre. Rht2 Calibre looking good on Tabbita clay loam GRDC CSIRO Kalyx Australia Scott Vaessen #longcoleoptilewheat
Long coleoptile wheat sown deep (12cm) vs shallow sown at Wynarka SA, establishment without Autumn rainfall. Head start ahead of the break 🌾🌾🌾

Andrew Borrell 's last day working at Hermitage research station after 32 years. Fantastic to have the opportunity to work with him on sorghum for 30 of those years. Amazing contribution by Andy to the field of sorghum drought physiology in Austrslia and globally.
Kenton Porker John Kirkegaard GRDC Greg Rebetzke Therese Mcbeath GRDC South 2024 will be the perfect year for long coleoptile trials. Generally in the past I haven't worried too much if a crop goes in dry as it typically rains within a finite period, but this year with seed sitting in dry soil for up to 2 months, the difference will be profound!
Mic Fels. Optimum not maximum Kenton Porker GRDC Greg Rebetzke Therese Mcbeath GRDC South Indeed - these are precisely the conditions where it can show it’s worth, but even 1 week earlier emergence can be valuable for WUE
Contrasting soil water, temperature, bulk density and strength to understand resistance to coleoptile elongation with deep (100mm) sowing at 22 sites/soil types across the Australian wheatbelt (here Tabbita NSW) for #longcoleoptilewheat GRDC CSIRO Kalyx Australia
Mid vs long coleoptile rht18 wheat planted at depth, just into moisture on the 10th of April at 11cm

Southern QLD #Longcoleoptilewheat being finalised for #plant24 . Four trials onsite - Core Met Trial, Seed Size, Press wheel down pressure & Seed treatment effect. Range of LCW and conventional lines with approx. 40 or 100 mm of soil over the seed. GRDC North Greg Rebetzke Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Queensland
Looking for emerging seedlings at 130+mm soil depth following warm soil temperatures and significant furrow in-fill at Dowerin WA. Long coleoptile Mace18 performing well at this depth in the GRDC and CSIRO #LongColeoptileWheats project. Great work SLR - Field Research | Extension !
