I started today determined to find Erigeron bonariensis in Hampshire. I didn't hold much hope as it's very rare here. Well, find it I did on my walk back from work, in two locations! Very distinctive, and my search image is now fixed. Get in! Havant, Hampshire. BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

This is Purbrook Heath cricket ground in Havant, Hampshire. It still retains elements of the former heathland flora, with abundant Chamomile Chamaemelum nobile, acid grasses, and various legumes including Strawberry Clover Trifolium fragiferum. Ghosts of the past. BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland

Star attraction at Cuckmere Haven is obviously Wall Germander Teucrium chamaedrys. Past flowering, very few plants, and very tricky to find amongst tall, rank grassland. Everyone in the world seemed to be there today. BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland Sussex Botanical Recording Society

It's fair to say that this has been rather a spectacular week! I was ringing in some long grass this morning and this Wryneck turned up! The backing cast was great with 8 Grasshopper Warblers, 5 Whinchat, 2 Stonechat and 53 Sedge Warblers.

Perhaps a surprising choice, but this is my favourite plant: Field Woundwort Stachys arvensis. I never tire of seeing it, as here in an arable margin in Hampshire. BSBI: Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland
