❗️STRIKE ACTION CALLED OFF❗️ UHI UCU members met today to receive an update from the branch committee on meetings with the UHI Senior Executive Team and Director of HR Details below 👇 #UCURising #ThinkUHI UCU Scotland UCU

Members were provided with a progress report for their consideration and, after full debate on next steps, voted to call off the scheduled strike action for the 30th and 31st October and 1st November to allow further discussions to take place

Members agreed that the branch is not in a position to resolve the dispute as yet and highlighted concerns and reservations that they still had, but felt that positive progress has been made

This is really good news. Hopefully, negotiations will find solutions. Well done to all involved.

Amazing work by everyone in our branch at University of the Highlands and Islands. I saw first hand when I visited them in October what a dedicated and determined group of people they were. I have no doubt they’ll get the deal they need, whilst also strengthening the branch 💪

In my contribution to UCU discussion of future of Higher Education I went over just how the crisis in our colleges has been brought about by transforming education into a commodity, students into economic units & higher education into a market place, & as a result crisis ridden.
