We held our EGM at midday today to consider our next steps in our local dispute with The University of Sheffield management. We had hoped to be able to put an offer to members to vote on which could have allowed members to return to work as early as this afternoon. 1/10

As Universities come to sensible agreements with local UCU branches over MAB deductions, it's undeniably clear that those Institutions which have not reached a deal are run by rogue managers with no interest in the welfare of students or staff.

Agree w James: the worst outliers are increasingly clear&isolated. But that bunch in the middle (incl Manchester): that’s around a 9% deduction on annual salary. Far better than where we were, thanks to UMUCU colleagues & esp branch negotiators, but still absolutely punitive.

Like many unis, Keele University 🐿️ set out to break the union during the MAB. With indefinite 50% deductions they sought to deter, punish, create hardship and division.
We organised wage sharing and hugely disrupted assessment. Now we are on strike all week.
We will NOT be broken.

Rt Revd and Rt Hon Lord Williams, Chancellor of USW, please plead with your university's SMT to negotiate with USW UCU. The position of USW on this 'league table' should not sit right with a former archbishop of Canterbury. Colleagues are going hungry.
